A belated thank you to everyone who came out and voted for the Newted Community in the Newtie Awards. Although we didn’t win our category, being nominated and recognized as a top Newton resource is still very much appreciated. I have added a section to the about page to display our previous Newtie Awards buttons and to thank everyone again, including Rich Lindsay of This Old Newt fame. On a related note, my personal NPDS server did end up walking away with the prize in its category. Go figure.

I’m just here to make life easier for my users. You can now access the message boards by using a much simpler URL. For instance, http://newted.net/forums/ takes you directly to that convoluted old beast http://newted.dyndns.org/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro. And remember, you can also slap that nifty little /forums/ directory onto the backside of any of the other valid Newted Community domains such as newted.com, newted.org and the venerable newted.dyndns.org, with or without the optional www.

All you folks who have been waiting so very patiently for your new accounts to be set up need not pester me anymore. The entire backlog of memberships has been cleared out by yours truly. Nothing languishing in the corners of my in box. Nothing left to fret about. Go forth and enjoy your new community.

It’s time to cast your final votes for the 2002 edition of the Newtie Awards. What the heck is a Newtie? A mighty fair question if you haven’t been hanging around Newtons very long. The Newties are annual awards given out by Rich Lindsay of This Old Newt fame, celebrating the best Newton-related software releases, upgrades, hardware hacks, web sites, and personalities the community has to offer. This year, there happens to be three projects I’m spearheading in the running for awards. I don’t normally enter these on my own account, but this year the Newton Glossary, the Newted Community web site, and my personal Newton web server were all nominated by my green-ensconced peers. If you’ve got a moment to spare, head on over to the official Newtie Awards Voting Booth and flip a lever for your favourites. If one of my humble projects happens to be included on your short list, that’d be great. Honestly, I’m just happy to be nominated.

People of the Newton, it’s that time of the year again. Nominations for the 2002 Newtie Awards are being accepted as of today. I know a bunch of you are probably still recovering from the US Senate elections earlier this month, but why not get out there and dimple a preliminary chad for the old Newted Community anyway? Just to help you out, the Newted Community is currently nominated in the Best Newton Web Site category, and well looky here… my personal Newton server isn’t hanging around in the Best NPDS Site aisle for nothing. High tail it over to This Old Newt and let them know which sites you’d like to see slug it out in the final rounds during December.
